Machine Configuration: The SMART Series machines are moving gantry style, which minimizes the footprint in your shop. They are a “step above” in their performance due to the world class engineering and components incorporated into the design.

Machine Construction: The SMART machines are built to a no compromise standard. It starts with heavy duty structural steel tubing (up to .78” thick) that is continuous welded.

The weldments are then heat treated, stress relieved. Then the weldments are machined on a large CNC mill. We build in lifetime precision, square and perpendicularity into each frame. A heavy duty, welded and stress relieved frame, will absorb the vibration from cutting and produce a superior quality of cut at a faster speed. Next we carefully mount oversized, hardened and ground linear guides.

Automatic lubrication keeps the correct amount of oil on the rails to extend the service life. Then dual helical pinions in combination with high quality gear rack, and oversized Yaskawa servo motors provide motion for X and Y axes.

This combination produces world class performance for acceleration and deceleration. ACC/DEC is important because each move on the machine accelerates to the programmed speed then decelerates before the next move. The faster the ACC/DEC the more time the machine spends at the feedrate, producing the best edge finish, and reducing the cycle time.

The Z axis uses a hardened antibacklash ballscrew which is also tied into the lubrication system. The Z axis is counterbalanced to allow fast ACC/DEC. The Z axis also uses an oversized Yaskawa servo motor. Yaskawa servos are renowned for the performance and reliability.

The Work Surface is a made from a 2” thick phenolic slab machined into a 2 zone vacuum plenum. The plenum acts to spread vacuum across the table surface, and is ideal to use with flow thru type fixturing. The table also includes 4 pop up locators for easy positioning of sheet stock, or individual work pieces. 7.5 hp high pressure vacuum pumps and inlet filters are included.

The spindle used is a second generation HSK63 air cooled 12.6 hp router/shaper. The rpm range is from 6,000 – 24,000 and is fully programmable within the spindle range. The HSK 63 allows use of shank style router bits or arbor mount shaper cutters. Further it is configured with an 8-position carousel style tool Automatic Tool Changer (ATC).

The CNC control is an OSAI Open Industrial controller. Tool compensation functions (radius and length), on the fly override for feedrate and spindle speed and auto tool length measurement.
